Marilyn Moore was an American jazz singer during the 1950s. She recorded one solo album, Moody Marilyn Moore. Her vocal style was similar to Billie Holiday’s, and according to jazz critic Will Friedwald, Holiday and Moore were friends. She was the first wife of saxophonist Al Cohn and the mother of guitarist Joe Cohn.

Not exactly a household name, Marilyn Moore was married to jazz musician Al Cohn when she recorded this album, her only release, in 1957. Cohn supports his wife in the studio on sax and clarinet alongside other top notch players including Milt Hinton on bass, Barry Galbraith on guitar, Joe Wilder on trumpet, Don Abney on piano and Osie Johnson on drums. Moore’s vocals drew comparisons to Billie Holiday when this album first came out.

Singer Marilyn Moore was wed to reedist Al Cohn at the time she recorded her lone LP, the aptly titled Bethlehem session Moody Marilyn Moore, but the scarcity of her studio output and the connubial origins of the session shouldn’t be considered a condemnation of her talents. Working with a small but beguiling backing unit including Cohn on tenor and bass clarinet, Milt Hinton on bass, Barry Galbraith on guitar, Joe Wilder on trumpet, Don Abney on piano and Osie Johnson on drums, Moore proves herself a first-rate stylist in the Billie Holiday mode, with a lived-in, seen-it-all authority that lends the music a welcome edge. The arrangements perfectly capture a smoky, late-night atmosphere, but it’s Moore’s vocals that truly underscore the solitude and heartbreak so essential to the record’s potency.

Lori Lieberman is an American singer-songwriter who accompanies herself on guitar and piano. She first came to public attention in the early 1970s with a series of albums on Capitol Records, one of which featured the first recording of “Killing Me Softly”. After a long hiatus, she resumed her recording career in the mid-1990s. “Bricks Against The Glass”, her 15th album, features eleven songs composed and arranged by Lori Lieberman.

“Lieberman possesses one of the most attractive and unusual voices in music”— The New York Times

“That this was mastered using PMC monitors, with an audiophile at the helm, will not surprise those who know Lori Leiberman as a hi-fi fave. Of greater relevance is content even more personal and intimate than the sparkling arrangements might suggest. The title track, which wouldn’t have seemed out of place on an early Eagles LP, promises a West Coast sonic experience but quickly moves into a circa-1968 Cambridge (Massachusetts) coffee shop confessional. … All are unmistakably Lieberman, delivered in that breathy voice that lulls you into thinking she’s singing only for you.” — Sound Quality: 90%, Ken Kessler, Hi-Fi News,

On May 17, 2011, nuscope releases Swedish pianist Lisa Ullén’s first solo piano disc, titled Catachresis. Lisa’s vision of solo piano includes echoes of fellow-countryman Sten Sandell’s subtle use of clusters and the innovative inner piano preparations of Sophie Agnel or Magda Mayas. The music is stunningly dynamic and dramatic to boot.

This 13-track CD, which was financed by the Swedish Arts Council, was beautifully recorded by engineer Johannes Lundberg at Epidemin Studios in Gothenburg, Sweden on a new Fazoli grand piano and mastered by Alan Bise at Azica Productions in Cleveland.

En Concierto (released in the United States as In Concert) is a 1983 live release by Julio Iglesias. The album was sold more than 2 million copies and certified as 2x Platinum.

Released around the time of Julio Iglesias’s massively successful 1984 record, 1100 BEL AIR PLACE, this two-disc live album finds the Spanish vocalist performing for huge audiences around the globe. On this 26-track release, the beloved crooner settles into standards that are given an era-specific synthesizer gloss (see both his plaintive take on “Begin the Beguine” and his emotive Cole Porter medley), while also nodding to Latin America with numbers that incorporate iconic tunes such as “Guantanamera.” While some may prefer Iglesias’s studio recordings, IN CONCERT is a revealing portrait of the singer as a crowd-pleasing showman.

A Flor de Piel is 1974 Spanish language album by Julio Iglesias. The LP was released in the United States in October 1974. A month later, Billboard noted major sales of the album in Miami, New York, Chicago and Puerto Rico.

This is one of the most important records of his career because it paved the way for establishing Iglesias as the major Latin singer of the time. It contains one his biggest hits ever, “Por el Amor de una Mujer.” Other songs, like “Manuela” and “Vivir,” became must-haves for future shows and compilations. “Te Quiero Así” is a Spanish version of Don MacLean’s “If I Love You So.” Some songs were previously included on Spanish releases. The result is an enjoyable and romantic album that features some of his best interpretations.

‘New Skin’ has come together thanks to JONES’ work with some incredible studio talents; Lana Del Rey collaborator Justin Parker, Savages producer and xx mixer Rodaidh McDonald, Sam Smith co-writer Tourist, Two Inch Punch, XO, Oceaan and the enigmatic A.K. Paul and HONNE. Working with these disparate talents got JONES exploring new ground, but also hardened her vision of what her songs should really be: moments to lift people out of their lives, however difficult. “What I want to put across is that it’s OK to be where you are, wherever you are, to learn from this. We all need the sad songs sometimes, but it’s good to have optimism too, to free your mind of things that make you unhappy” says JONES about her melancholic but optimistic album.

Hailing from East London and raised on a diet of soul and R&B, Cherie Jones made her entrance to the scene in early 2015, uploading her debut track, “Deep,” to SoundCloud. Having signed to independent label 37 Adventures, she went on to release her debut EP, Indulge, in April of 2015, professionally going by her surname. Collaborating with a host of producers such as A.K. Paul, Brunelle, Raffertie, and XL resident Rodaidh McDonald, the release further showcased Jones’ earnest, powerful and intense vocals while combining organic acoustic elements and resonant, warm guitar work with prominent, compelling, and ethereal electronics and lush, sharp, hook-laden choruses. Following this, she then went on to perform an acoustic version of the EP title track on the BBC’s Later…with Jools Holland before releasing the track “Hoops,” produced by emerging talents Josh Record and XO. The track has been compared to acts such as the xx and Lykke Li, and its style has been dubbed “digital soul.” ~ Rob Wacey

Organist Johnny Dupont’s debut is marked by bright, bouncy arrangements of pop easy listening material. His vibrant style should spark greater enthusiasm for organ music. Standout numbers are “Caravan” and “Our Day Will Come”.
